Longtime fans of gospel great Fred Hammond will find I Will Trust leaning toward the lyrical simplicity and musical passion that typified his years with the Winans and Commissioned. These tracks show a sense of renewed mission, with “Lord Have Your Way,” “It’s Only the Comforter,” and the title number (a duet with daughter BreeAnn) especially noteworthy for their worshipful, scripture-based content. Hammond remains a master at fusing secular and sacred music styles, infusing “Take Me to the Water” with ‘70s funk touches and diving into a rap segment with gusto on “It’s Mine.”
