Marsalis is the son of jazz musician Ellis Marsalis, Jr. (pianist), grandson of Ellis Marsalis, Sr., and brother of Branford Marsalis (saxophonist), Delfeayo Marsalis (trombonist), Mboya, and Jason Marsalis (drummer).
