She was among the first country artists to achieve significant crossover success in the pop market and had several major hits during her eight-year recording career, including two number-one singles on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart. Born in Winchester, Virginia, Cline began performing professionally in 1948 at local radio station WINC. .
