Sometimes history books get it wrong. Freedom Book" gets it right. It's one of the most overlooked accomplishments of mid-century modern jazz. A contemporary of Coltrane's, Booker Ervin belongs in the same exalted category. He was adventuresome; he was furiously creative; his sound was powerfully expressive. He moaned, he cried, he swung. But more than anything, he fearlessly followed his muse. Freedom Book is an inspired and extended suite on the very nature of joyous jazz.
