One of Jamaica's biggest reggae stars, Buju Banton hit the scene in the late '80s and never looked back. Over the course of his lengthy career, he's released 10 albums and countless singles. Some songs are political, some are spiritual, and some are relentlessly violent—he's probably best known for his anti-gay anthem "Boom Bye Bye." Currently incarcerated on a drug-conspiracy conviction, he remains popular in his home country, as well as in dancehall hotspots like London, New York, and Miami. The Reality of Life is the second compilation drawing from Banton's early work with Donovan Germain's Penthouse Records. A mix of straight-up roots, lovers rock, dub, and dancehall, this is a standout collection. It features collaborations with Wayne Wonder, Morgan Heritage, Beres Hammond, and Carol Gonzales.
