Upon signing to the iconic Sub Pop label, the Pennsylvania band Pissed Jeans upgraded their profile to become one of the punk rock elite. The validation forced folks who'd otherwise ignore the group to take their abrasive rock seriously. This remastered reissue of the band’s 2005 eight-track debut album (Shallow) and their first single (“Throbbing Organ” backed with “Night Minutes”) celebrates the band’s early days. “Little Sorrell” blasts like Raw Power–era Stooges, while “I Broke My Own Heart” is hilarious. That the band pound harder and sing and scream past desperation provides their charm.
