Lo-fi garage rock master Ty Segall may be more ambitious on his albums (see 2014’s excellent Manipulator), but singles and EPs let him get back to his roots. This four-song blast is quick and to the point, with clanging electric guitars and ‘60s-styled solos alongside deliberately boxy-sounding drums and vocals that cry like a baby in their falsetto splendor. The sweetly harmonized ballad “The Picture” further demonstrates Segall’s introspective side, while the remaining three rockers do as fans expect. Segall’s prolific nature isn't yet overwhelming, and the EP size may serve as the best format for the curious to become acquainted.
