Two of the most established guitarists on today's jazz scene, Kevin Eubanks and Stanley Jordan tackle covers and originals while trading off on a variety of guitar, bass, and piano parts with some overdubbing. Neither player has stuck to the confines of jazz, and the covers here range from Adele’s “Someone Like You” to the spiritual “A Child Is Born” to a brief take on Miles Davis’ “Blue in Green.” The aptly named original “Old School Jam” crackles with energy, while the moody “Vibes” is quite relaxed. While Jordan is known for his “touch” technique, his overall playing here is lovely but often more conventional sounding.
