Dean Brody was drawn to the acoustic guitar in his teens, but his job at the local sawmill left little time to work on songs. Fed up with punching clocks and sawing wood, he relocated to Nashville in 2004 and landed a songwriter’s publishing deal that went nowhere after two years. Now with a family to feed, Brody moved back home and got a job working in the local mines. But before unpacking, Brody got a call informing him that Broken Bow records wanted to sign him and release this, his self-titled debut. “Undone” introduces Dean Brody with an instantly likeable tenor that recalls Ryan Adams without the affected drawl, but it’s “Dirt Road Scholar” that gives real insight into the tunesmith. The song hinges on rootsy honky-tonk twang with a chorus that’s catchier than most new traditional hits. “Brothers” is a heavy power ballad that plays with the honesty of a young man's life and shows promise of more good music to come.
